Basis Point

A unit of measurement equal to 1/100th of a percentage point (0.01%). Used to express changes in interest rates or fees. For example, if a rate increases from 6.00% to 6.25%, it rose by 25 basis points. Loan officer commissions are often expressed in basis points.
